OUR APPROACH

Who we support and how we work

Science and technology companies

Growing SMEs establishing their own laboratory or R&D facilities as they scale beyond incubator environments.

Property owners and
developers

Landlords and developers repositioning buildings to support science and technology uses, including retrofit and laboratory-ready environments.

Universities and public
sector partners

Institutions and public bodies delivering innovation infrastructure, research commercialisation space and science-led regeneration.

We support organisations delivering specialist laboratory and R&D facilities.

Drawing on our experience designing, developing and operating R&D buildings, we help define clear user requirements and technical infrastructure from the outset. We ensure laboratory workflows, equipment, and mechanical and electrical systems are properly integrated into the design alongside the amenity and community spaces that strengthen brand, attract talent and enhance the workplace experience.

We assemble the right design team and guide projects through design development, planning strategy, procurement and contractor selection, enabling competitive tenders and the successful delivery of specialist R&D facilities at best value.

ABOUT US

We are a team of scientists, architects and developers shaped by firsthand experience of building scientific companies — and the infrastructure they depend on.

Since 2015, we have designed and delivered specialist lab space alongside founders, creating more than 85,000 sq ft of infrastructure for scientific innovation. Our expertise was built by solving the practical challenges faced by growing science and technology companies: translating complex research requirements into spaces that accelerate the path to impact.

As companies scaled, so did demand for this approach. Today, our development management service supports SME scale-ups, property owners as well as universities and public sector partners to design and deliver complex R&D facilities that support long-term growth.

We don't just design labs; we bring a decade of experience delivering, managing, and refining R&D spaces that are home to some of the UK’s most transformative companies.

  • "Science Creates transformed an existing building into a home for our biology nerds: a rapid-prototyping lab built for experimentation, iteration and growth. Their user-led approach captured how our team really works and turned it into a space that accelerates innovation. Delivered on time and on budget."

    —Harry Singer, CEO, Singer Instruments

  • "We really valued the input from Science Creates on the design, planning and support with engaging contractors for the write-up spaces in our new scale-up facility. Their understanding of the MEP required and planning was really useful, especially within a leased property."

—Will Milligan, Founder & CEO, Extracellular

  • "The Science Creates team helped provide advice as we moved into our scale-up site, providing design input on commercial labs, understanding planning constraints and making sure we understood the compliance required for operation. This support enabled us to grow to 31 people and we have now deployed 4 operating units to clients to treat their waste and to date we have generated over 60MWh of renewable energy."

—Thomas Fudge, Founder & CEO, Wase

  • "Our work developing complex quantum sensors and systems places very specific demands on the environment we operate in. The refurbishment carried out by Science Creates allowed us to properly integrate prototyping and engineering capability alongside office space without compromising performance."

—Peter Stirling, Founder & CEO, STL Tech

  • "We had to convert an office into a dry lab in a very short time to deal with client demand. The team from Science Creates were invaluable in creating an effective space for research for our seaweed-based biomaterials."
